WHAREKAHO (SIMPSONS BEACH)

Wharekaho (Simpsons Beach) is a sheltered and safe swimming beach surrounded by green hills. Standing prominent is Mt Maungatawhiri (the highest mountain in the Whitianga area), which has spectacular views overlooking Mercury Bay. Old Pohutukawa trees, some of them described by Captain Cook, still stand today, supporting shelter around the beach.

There are a number of houses along Wharekaho beach.
