WHENUAKITE
Whenuakite is on State Highway 25, 8km south of Coroglen. It is near the intersection leading to Cooks Beach, Hahei and Hot Water Beach. Tairua is 18km to the south east. The Whenuakite River flows from coastal hills in the east through the area to drain in the Whitianga Harbour.
Colenso Country Shop and Café in Whenuakite was awarded “Runner-Up Best Cafe in New Zealand 2010” Cafe magazine. It has a country ambience and food cooked fresh. Inside there is a selection of art, jewellery and gourmet food available for sale.
Whenuakite School is a coeducational full primary (Years 1-8) school with a roll of around 130. The school had its centennial reunion in 2008.
