WHITIANGA WEATHER

Access to Coromandel Coastal Walkway restricted and Fletcher Bay Campground closed

The Department of Conservation has advised that access to the Coromandel Coastal Walkway and Mountain Bike Track from the western side is currently not possible due to a road washout at the Fletcher Bay campground.

Both tracks are still accessible from the Stony Bay end, however walkers will need to plan a return trip on the same day, as there is currently no accommodation available at Fletcher Bay as a consequence of the road damage. Keep a close eye on the DOC website here for future updates.

The Fletcher Bay campground and the Fletcher Bay Backpackers will both remain closed until access can be restored.

DOC appreciates the public’s patience and support while this work is carried out.
