WHITIANGA WEATHER

David Hall, a kitchen installer at Mastercraft Kitchens in Whitianga, has become the first person in New Zealand to obtain a micro-credential. Handing David his achievement certificate on Wednesday last week at the Mastercraft factory in the Moewai Park industrial area, Warwick Quin, the CEO of the Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO), said David is the first of tens of thousands of New Zealanders who will obtain micro credentials.

New Zealand painter Helen Flora Victoria Scales, known as Flora Scales, was an enigma in her day. She was a woman who did what she pleased, when she pleased. She was a stoically independent woman and nomadic spirit who travelled around Europe, escaping her life in New Zealand as an heiress to a nouveau riche family which she disdained. She trekked around with not much more than her paint box and a suitcase and she painted prolifically.

A prestigious yachting regatta that is held on a slightly smaller scale than the America’s Cup will be sailed in Whitianga this coming Saturday (10 November) when the Whitianga Waterways play host to the CRC Des Townson Memorial Regatta.
