WHITIANGA WEATHER

The Coromandel’s More FM/Informer-supported petition to return a Whitianga-based rescue helicopter to the Coromandel Peninsula, especially over the peak holiday periods, has last week reached 30,000 signatures. This milestone was achieved in less than six weeks.

Following a full Thames-Coromandel District Council meeting on Tuesday last week, it was announced that Coromandel ratepayers are facing an average rates increase of 9.98 per cent, equating to a higher rates bill of, on average, $287 per property.

Whitianga residents and visitors will be treated to a sea of sails this coming weekend (Saturday 15 and Sunday, 16 February) as the Mercury Bay Boating Club (MBBC) hosts the annual Waikato Centreboard Championship Regatta.

Their members learn digital photography, genealogy, the latest smartphone tricks, even how to find the best crafting patterns online, and now SeniorNet Whitianga are on the hunt for enthusiastic people who can offer a skill, lend support or provide practical help to keep the dynamic club functioning smoothly.
