Nicky Moran to perform in Whitianga

Well-known gospel singer, Nicky Moran (pictured), will be performing a community concert at the Whitianga Baptist Church on Cook Drive on Saturday this week (23 October) at 7:00pm.

The concert will feature songs from Nicky’s latest album, “Unlocked”, which was released seven weeks ago. Described as “an uplifting combination of catchy and sometimes unexpected sounds”, the album was mostly written and composed during the first Covid-19 lockdown last year. The songs are a mix of 70s/80s pop with a sprinkling of Americana, country blues, rock and big orchestral ballads.

Being severely ill in her 30s, Nicky has faced her own personal lockdown. Unable to do much, she played piano and along her long road to recovery unlocked “her true heart voice”. She says, “Unlocked is about letting go of old behaviours and unlocking new mindsets that focus on positive affirmations.”

Nicky is the only female artist in new Zealand with an active prisons’ ministry. Over the past six years, she has performed more than 450 gospel shows to male and female prisoners. Given her country/gospel sound and ability to express her thoughts and passions through her music, one could almost call her the female, Kiwi, Johnny Cash.

Entry to the concert is free. Numbers will be limited according to the Covid-19 alert level settings that will be in force on Saturday evening.
