Good art and good company in Coromandel Town

The chance to buy good art and enjoy good company comes with the fun of an art auction at Hauraki House Gallery in Coromandel Town on Friday this week (19 November).

The Informers’ Art Auction and Exhibition is organised by the town’s information centre and has become a major fundraiser for the centre.

Information centre manager, Sandra Wilson, says the success of last year’s auction was overwhelming and so it was decided to hold it again. “We’ve called it The Informers Art Auction and Exhibition because the idea came at an information centre morning tea and there are a few artists in our team,” she says. “An amazing cross section of people came along last year. There was something for everyone and a really lovely atmosphere. We were lucky to have experienced auctioneers, our team of organisers were buzzing and the support from local residents was incredible.”

The auction evening includes spot prizes, raffles, wine and nibbles. Sandra says the event has been well supported by local artists who donated a piece of work for the auction and then were able to have a piece in the exhibition that people could purchase.

Historic Hauraki House is in Kapanga Road and is the venue for the town’s summer art exhibitions. These started with Coromandel Embroiders Exhibition from 3 to 14 November. Upcoming exhibitions include The Elam Grads from 22 November to 9 December and the Christmas Exhibition from 11 December to 9 January. There are eight other exhibitions planned for the summer months, ending in May.
