Cruising away from lockdown times

As Covid-19 vaccination rates increase and comprehensive health and safety policies are being developed and enforced by travel and tourism providers, the world is opening up again and, according to Monett Johnston, the owner of YOU Travel in Whitianga, people should now start to plan their next overseas holiday. “We’re already looking at options for people eager to brush the cobwebs off their passports and hop on a cruise,” she says. “Our dedicated team are certainly ready to hear from you and have been keeping up to date with all of the various travel policies and requirements. We have also been upskilling on our already vast cruise knowledge, in particular the luxury cruise market.”

A cruise line the YOU Travel Whitianga team is confident to promote is Silversea, a leader in ultra-luxury cruising with an outstanding fleet of ultra-luxury ships. Silver Moon and Silver Shadow, two of the ships in the Silversea fleet, have already welcomed thousands of guests aboard to enjoy the beauty of the Mediterranean. “The Silversea Mediterranean brochure will be in store very soon and as New Zealand and Australia open up to overseas travel, it will be a priority to book early to avoid disappointment,” says Monett. “Silversea offers an all-inclusive experience. Your airfares to your destination are covered as well as transfers to/from the ship, all your meals - including the cruise line’s in-suite 24-hour dining service - and beverages in your suite and throughout the ship. A butler service is included as are all gratuities and unlimited Wi-Fi on board. Also, beginning in March 2022, Mediterranean sailings include a shore excursion in every port.”

Silversea’s pricing philosophy ensures that guests who book early are rewarded. They offer an early booking saving of up to 20 percent on selected 2022 sailings booked and paid in full by 30 November 2021.

“The time to book a cruise is now,” says Monett. “While we are taking our time about future travel here in New Zealand, the rest of the world is not and now that we are starting to re-book our clients for 2022 and 2023, we are finding that the cruises they are selecting are completely sold out, especially in 2022.”

Naturally many people will be sceptical of their safety as the world opens up, but Monett is reassuring that there’s nothing to fear. “Travel suppliers such as the likes of Silversea have made their guests and staff’s health and safety their number one priority,” she says. “Only double vaccinated passengers will be allowed to board. Guests will also be required to take a complimentary rapid antigen test before they board and halfway through their voyage. Physical distancing will be maintained and only low risk destinations will be explored. Masks are to be worn by crew at all times, while passengers are required to wear masks in all indoor public areas, terminals and during shore excursions. Masks aren’t required while seated in restaurants and at tables in bars.

“Silversea has also implemented extensive cleaning and sanitation measures, installed enhanced air filtration systems on their ships and have high quality medical facilities and experts available at all times.”

YOU Travel Whitianga is now taking bookings for a seven-day Barcelona to Lisbon cruise departing on 11 October 2022 on Silver Moon. All-inclusive packages start at $7,430 per person in a classic Veranda suite.

If this cruise or any other overseas trips are of interest to you, do not hesitate to contact the YOU Travel Whitianga team to assist you with your journey. With them you are in safe hands.
