Christmas tree bauble winners announced

Whitianga’s first outdoor Christmas tree (pictured) was dismantled and placed into storage on Saturday last week.

Thank you to everybody who entered our competition where they had to guess the number of baubles on the tree. The correct answer was 912 baubles. Congratulations to Mervyn Gregory from Whitianga, Mel Rea from Auckland, Ward Coleman from Whitianga, Jacob Sheehan from Auckland and Cooper Tutt from Whitianga who were the closest with their answers. They all win a $50 voucher to spend with one of The Informer’s regular advertisers.

A video of the damage caused to the tree in the early hours of 30 December last year was circulated on social media. Three of the six people on the footage have already been identified and their names have been given to the Police. If anyone has any information that may be helpful in bringing the perpetrators to justice, please contact the Whitianga Police or phone 105.

The Business Support Community Trust, the charitable organisation looking after the tree on behalf of the Mercury Bay community, says the tree will be back bigger and better in December this year.
