American Muscle, Street and Custom Club Whitianga Show

By Jack Biddle
The organising and planning for the upcoming Farmer Auto Village and CFM Coromandel sponsored car show which will take place on Sunday, 8January 2023, is well underway.
Local Whitianga residents, muscle car owners and club members, Reg and Julie Smith, are once again at the helm of organising the event and are ably supported by a band of active and enthusiastic members of the local club.
“We are victims of our own past success to be honest,” says Reg, referring to the fact the past two shows, which were held in the main street, have created so much interest from owners and visitors alike, that a change in venue was required. “The upcoming show will be staged at the Buffalo Beach Reserve which allows us to have more vehicles on show to meet the anticipated demand, less public congestion and more centralised entertainment to host the likes of life music, vendors, sausage sizzles etc, plus a range of different and fun activities including spot and category prizes for the entrants.”
Those looking to see plenty of polished chrome and flashbacks to the 60’s and 70’s won’t be disappointed either, but the show is also designed to encourage participation from owners from the many different facets of the motoring world, both past and present, and regardless of their country of origin.
“We intend to have on display a whole range of different vehicles, including the fast and furious to the far more sedate, plus a variety of off-road vehicles as well. We are also encouraging those who may be partway through a particular car project to transport it down to the reserve so the public can appreciate the work that goes into turning an old, tired car into a work of art and often restoring them back to better than factory condition.”
In addition to the main sponsors, Farmer Auto Village and CFM radio, other keen supporters include Grace O’Malley’s Irish Inn and The Informer, plus local businesses that have always generously provided a host of different products for prizes and raffles for this show.
All up, an event not to be missed for both locals and holidaymakers from the wider Mercury Bay region.
