Bounty of the Sea Festival - community get-together
Mercury Bay Club, will be bubbling this Sunday, 25 September, 11am to 4pm, with all the trappings of a wonderful Bounty of the Sea Festival (oodles of seafood). This is a public event with all ages very welcome to come and fill the Garden Bar at the Club for a spectacular sea food menu, great entertainment and raffle draws, as well as a costume competition for the children.
Over 200 people can be accommodated outside in the Garden Bar plus there is the playground for the children and spacious seating inside.
“The festival began in 2018 and covid made it difficult to grow for a year or two, but everything is ready for a crowd, says Cheryl Andrew, Co-ordinator of the festival and partner of Club Manager, Stephan Andrew.
“The annual Bounty of the Sea is something different” says Sheryl. “This festival is focussed around the Mercury Bay Club’s intention to celebrate the sea food we have in abundance in this area and to have a general community fun, get-together. We are donating the door fee this year to the Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Sheryl is working very hard so her expectations that 200 people will come and enjoy the sea food and enjoy the music and the company of others of all ages, will come about.
The programme is full and the menu is delectable -
o White bait fritters (subject to stocks)
o Mussel fritters
o Sea food chowder
o Scallop mornay
o Food for non-seafood eaters
Musical entertainment in the Garden Bar will be easy listening style with Doc Jeffrey and Friends from 12 noon to 4pm.
Sea Theme Costume Prizes: Children are invited to dress up for the Best Sea Theme Costume.
And there will be raffle draws for the adults mixed among the music and food. A huge thank you to Coast to Coast for the shelter provided over the Garden Bar.
Chef Nijah is kindly helping on the day but our volunteers are the main cooks. It is a special feature of this festival is that the volunteers help out on the day with preparing the fritters and cooking.

General Information: Mercury Bay Club, with its new chef, is open seven days a week. Every Sunday night is open for dinner. There are three snooker tables, 8-ball tables, a dart club and indoor bowling. Quite a few of the organisations in Mercury Bay use the facilities. There are membership draws two days a week, Tuesday and Friday. It’s a part of chartered clubs of New Zealand which means a member has access to every club in New Zealand.
