Coastguard awards

The annual prize giving has just taken place for the fourth intake of the Whitianga Coastguard
Alan Jackson Memorial Cadetship. This year, the Cadets tutors were unable to
separate the two top contenders for the Outstanding Cadet award so they declared a draw
presenting outstanding Cadet awards to both Skyla Blofield and Chloe Morcom. Euan Stewart was the very deserving winner of the Most Improved Cadet award.
Many thanks to Stuart from Longshore Marine and Stu Lowth from Medi-train, for their very
kind donation of two PFDs and four first aid kits to add to our prize pool. Each of our Cadets has qualified from this course with, VHF Certificates, Day Skipper Certificates, First Aid and in Water Survival Certificates. A great achievement for them all and congratulations,
well done. Thank you to our partners, Mercury Bay Area School, for their ongoing support.
Thank you to my fellow tutors, Pete and Martin, we can now start the ground work for next year’s
intake. Thanks also to Diane, our administration officer and Judy, our Welfare Officer, for attending to all of the back ground logistics. Last and by no means least,
thank you to Kizzy Samson for producing chocolate cake which made everyone’s day.
