Contractor’s work after cyclones appreciated
Many hi-viz jackets and vests and an army of work boots characterised the nature of the gathering at Smitty’s Bar and Grill last Wednesday afternoon from 5.00pm.
The reason was, Thames Coromandel District Council’s District Event organiser, Kirsten Richmond, had invited the companies involved in cyclone and storm recovery across the Coromandel to a drinks and nibbles THANK YOU for work well done. This thank you was on behalf of TCDC.
Mayor Len Salt and his wife, Svargo, were there to host and express a big ‘Thank You’ on behalf of the people.
It was modest in terms of not being ‘over the top’ but it was a generous and much appreciated event. Smitty’s Bar and Grill had prepared well for the large number of workers who literally came off the trucks and diggers to be thanked. The number of companies out working represents hundreds of people and thousands of hours removing slips and trees, repairing access ways from highways to tracks, clearing storm water and blockages in a myriad of difficult places.

CURRENT Road news:
Tapu-Coroglen Road remains CLOSED and impassable for the foreseeable future. Location is 10km from Tapu. Closures are in place on either side of the slip. Properties can be accessed from either end however, detours are large for residents to travel to the other side of the slip. The slip is large (approx 30m wide along the road on the face of the slip) with the slip occurring above and below the road.
Colville Road is OPEN
Port Jackson Road is now OPEN There are multiple one lane sections and additional hazards to consider. Works continue along the road so you can expect delays. Some sections will be under STOP-STOP as works continue into next week.
