Fun day planned for petrol heads and families

The opportunity for a fun day while helping Tairua’s emergency services comes with a Car Bike and Truck Show held in the grounds of Tairua Beach House Backpackers on Saturday, November 11.
As well as classic cars, hot-rods, big trucks and other interesting vehicles to please the petrol-heads, there will be food stalls, a sausage sizzle and a fun area for children. There will also be prizes for best car and bike.
Entry is by gold coin donation, which benefits the local fire brigade and the local St John Ambulance.
Hosting the event are Sharon and Angus Crause, who manage Tairua Beach House Backpackers. Jacko Johnson and Justin Symons are also on the organising committee.
The expanse of flat land beside the backpackers is a good spot to hold events and Sharon says this is where the idea was born.
“The four of us were sitting on the deck here looking out at the grounds on a Sunday afternoon and the boys came up with this idea. We are really excited about it and are so pleased with the response from the locals.
“We see it as something to lift our spirits while at the same time helping our local emergency services. All the people in our emergency services here are volunteers and we want to help them because they deserve it.” says Sharon.
There will be a shuttle from the town centre and organisers are looking at creating a parade of vehicles from the centre in the morning.
Children’s activities will include a skatepark, scavenger hunt and the old-fashioned fun of sack and three-legged races. A colouring competition is also being organised, with winners announced on the day.
Jacko has been involved with five truck shows that benefited children with cancer. He says there will be plenty of prizes and he is keen to see the community get behind the event because it will benefit everyone.
The organising team appreciate those supporting the event with sponsorship.
There will be security and first aid on site during the event, which runs from 10am – 4pm.
Tairua Beach House Backpackers is situated at 9 Tairua Palms, off Main Road and has accommodation for 12 as well as plenty of room for tents and campers.
