Gun Club streak of achievements continuing

The Whitianga Gun Club is continuing its impressive streak of achievements over the past years.

Last weekend, the club won the Allan Browne New Zealand Double Rise Trophy for the fifth time in a row. The team competing for the trophy was Brad Johnstone, Neville Crawford, Mike Keighley, Bill Smith and Dean Horn.

At the New Zealand Clay Target Association Hall of Fame dinner held in Christchurch last week, Ian Marshall and Lois France were awarded a Distinguished Service Award for clay target shooting, coaching and the tireless work they have done to keep Whitianga Gun Club going over the last 40 years.

In addition, club member Dean Horn has recently qualified for the New Zealand Macintosh open team, shooting 296 out of a maximum of 300 points. It’s the seventh time Dean will be representing New Zealand.

“I want to say a special thanks to Ian and Lois for their coaching and support,” says Dean. “They are two legends of the sport of clay target shooting. I can't thank them enough. The Whitianga Gun Club is over 100 years old and would be the most successful club in the Thames Valley. It’s world famous in Whitianga and well known around the clay target shooting clubs across New Zealand.
