Holiday Fun and Games at the Mercury Bay Library

Thinking of ways to keep your children’s minds sharp over the school holidays? The Mercury Bay Library has put together some “creative workshops” and “DIY sessions” for children aged 7 to 12, or 6 and younger with adult supervision, to pop by the library on Blacksmith Lane for a bit of fun.
The holiday programme has already kicked off Monday, 11 July, but as the activities and workshops run five days a week from Monday to Friday for all of the library’s opening hours till 22 July, you and your children and grandchildren have time to engage. A plethora of activities that will appeal to an array of young people have been organised, including ‘String Craft’ Mondays, ‘Creative Design’ Tuesdays, ‘Get Digital’ Wednesdays, ‘STEAM Lab’ Thursdays and ‘Play and Explore’ Fridays. Along with each of these days, there will also be hour-long bookable workshops that kids can take part in such as learning to crochet with the Crochet Club between 2:00pm - 3:00pm on Monday, ‘Sculpt and Make’ workshop on Tuesday, a ‘Digital Storytelling’ workshop on Wednesday and a ‘Science/Tech craft’ workshop, all of which will be held between 10:30am - 11:30am. Besides the Monday crochet workshop, bookings are essential for the other workshops throughout the week as spaces are limited.
This programme is a great learning opportunity for the local children in Mercury Bay, but also a great excuse for parents and caregivers to have their nose buried between the pages of one of the library’s newest books on the shelves while the kids have a blast.
