Huge beauty giveaway.
By Pauline Stewart.

Three local women, youthful and glamorous, and representing six local beauty businesses, are offering Mercury Bay women, in fact all women on the Coromandel Peninsula, a $1,085 beauty giveaway - over $1,000 of professional beauty therapy and pampering. Why?
Meet Rebecca Curtin, owner of The Beauty Room. “I have teamed up with some amazing local women in business and together we are offering a massive $1085 giveaway to one lucky winner,” she says excitedly. I feel like all of us need to support each other as much as possible. Yes, some of the six businesses involved do offer similar services, so it is competition in a sense, but we feel there is room for all of us to thrive.”
Meet Ana Johnson of Ewya Beauty. “Coming together and planning this giveaway is an opportunity to get our name out there and for the community to know our names and the level of beauty service we offer.”
All three women agreed that the area, as beautiful as it is, has suffered a third very bad summer period, a cyclone, road closures, bad weather and then here comes the recession.
Rebecca adds, “While others do not want to talk about this, I feel it is necessary to talk about it. Businesses are suffering, people's mental health suffers, and some are choosing to leave this beautiful place due to some of these reasons stated above.”
Meet Alyese Dunn of The Cabin. “We concluded, why not bring some much-needed pampering to help brighten someone else's day and so we are offering a super giveaway package from our industry.” Alyese owns The Cabin -a tranquil massage therapy and facial business on the 309 highway. She adds, “I have recently split my business for people who cannot always travel out from Whitianga, so now I also have a place above Stirling Sports in Albert Street. I have been self-employed for two and a half years. I love it and we have our home here. The present difficulties in the economy are very real but working together and supporting one another is a way to stay.”
Ana is known as the brow lady but she adds, “I also offer ‘derma blading’ which is fine hair facial treatment and that is the point of difference from other beauty businesses here.”
As well as The Beauty Room, which she runs from her home, Rebecca has also been operating Make-Up Artistry mobile service for 12 years. “I have a good facial range using natural products locally made. I love what I do. Transforming people, revealing beauty - it’s work I love.”
Everything about these women says they love their industry, and are committed to thrive. All of the following businesses take bookings via facebook and instagram.
