'Live Well' healthy cooking workshops

In response to a community health survey that was completed over the last year and half, the Whitianga Seventh Day Adventist Fellowship (WSDAF) initiated the ‘LIVE WELL’ healthy cooking classes to assist the community in their personal health journeys.

Having kicked off their first class earlier this month with great success, the WSDAF will be continuing to host these classes on the first Sunday of every month from now until November at the Whitianga Town Hall from 2:00pm to 3:30pm (7 August, 4 September, 2 October, 6 November).

With the mentality that “food is fuel to our bodies and our bodies are our greatest asset,” LIVE WELL cooking class’ aim is to bring in recipes that are wholefood plant based as much as

Possible, all the while being affordable and easily available with, of course, the option to substitute whatever alternatives participants prefer.

All for the price of a contribution towards the koha box, participants are privy to cooking demonstrations, nutritional advice from qualified nutritionists, meal budgeting and most excitingly, tastings. Organisations like ADRA (Adventist Disaster Relief Agency) as well as church members will be covering the rest of the costs with donations to make these workshops possible and available for all.

Along with this next cooking class 7 August, a community health expo will also be held at the Town Hall from 10:00am to 2:00pmon the Sunday. There will be booths that will provide for all comers, free health screening, opportunities to ask questions, learn simple economical ways to boost their health and acquire resources depending on their health demands.
