Mercury Bay Big Band Recital

There’s something for everyone in the Mercury Bay Big Band’s repertoire, ranging from swing and show tunes, to more recent pop tunes. The simple reason this music never goes out of style is simply because it’s just such stylish music to perform, and it is great for listening. The band obviously works hard to polish their act, but the standout performer is probably Yvette Audain, who not only plays the saxophone, but steps out front of stage to lend her voice as well.

Last Sunday the band played in the Crossroads Church auditorium, and it’s a venue that seems really well suited to their ‘big’ sound of music. On this occasion, the band was joined by guest vocalist Anita Prime, who has a huge stage presence all of her own, and earned genuine r.e.s.p.e.c.t for her version of the Aretha Franklin classic, among other songs.

There’s something for everyone in the Big Band repertoire, and if you’ve never heard the Big Band play before, keep an eye out for their next recital.
