NZTrio playing in Whitianga venue: St Andrew's by the Sea.
By Pauline Stewart.

Mark this date: Saturday May 13, 4.00pm
William Dart, music critic for the New Zealand Herald rates this trio as a “New Zealand National Treasure” and “New Zealand’s most indispensable ensemble.” Enough said. We are fortunate to have them in Whitianga.
NZTrio is renowned for its eclectic repertoire, outstanding talent.
and warm kiwi stage presence. Any preconceptions of classical music being stuffy or
intimidating are smashed by edgy repertoire, venue ambiance, and post-concert
manaakitanga. Every NZTrio performance powerfully reaffirms the importance and cathartic nature of a live musical experience in today’s digital world.
Expect to be affected.
The works in the concert span 229 years with Mozart’s Piano Trio in B-flat major written in 1786, while the most recent work, Forbidden Colours, was written by New Zealand composer Gareth Farr in 2015. Other works in the programme include Ärvo Pärt’s Mozart-Adagio, which fuses music centuries apart, and Brahms’ beautiful second piano trio. NZTrio is the bringing together of three incredibly accomplished artists: Violinist Amalia Hall, Cellist Ashley Brown and Pianist Somi Kim. This will be NZTrio's only concert in Whitianga this year, so don’t miss your chance!
Whitianga local Sharyn Morcom has organised this concert, saying: “Our isolated community means that opportunities to hear top quality performers such as NZTrio are few and far between. It's well worth the effort to bring NZTrio back to the area, and anyone who has heard them in the past will heartily agree.”
