Pink Bun Day ‘In the Pink!’

The Whitianga Lions Club would like to acknowledge the fantastic support this event received from the following stores/bakeries: Whitianga Countdown, Bay Bakery Whitianga, Tairua Four Square, Matarangi Four Square and Coromandel Four Square. Each of these stores gave everything they could to this event and we encourage you to support them in return when you are able.
The final figures are still coming in, but so far we have $1397.40 from Countdown, who donated everything for the fundraiser, and Bay Bakery who raised $300 and then topped it up with a donation of $200. According to all the Four Square stores, they sold out. A great result! Tairua Four Square has sent in $500 and the tally for Matarangi and Coromandel Four Squares is yet to come!
For those selling to the Countdown customers in the store foyer, it was a rewarding experience with lots of positive comments from customers and some very generous donations. Some people even opted to ‘pay it forward’ by paying for pink buns to be gifted to someone deserving. Caitlin, Countdown staff member, brought three packs of pink buns for the staff to share and then came back and brought another three packs for the Lions Club volunteers selling the buns. As they already had some, Caitlin suggested they be paid forward for others coming to the store. We even heard of customers doing the rounds of the various stores to taste what was on offer for Pink Bun Day, and a member of Norfolk Island Lions Club, Yvonne Robinson, popped in to donate to Project Mammogram and grab a photo opportunity to take back and share with her club.
We’d also like to pay tribute to the following media outlets who promoted the day: The Informer, CFM, All About Whitianga, Coromandel Chronicle, Trudi Nelson at Magic FM and TVNZ Breakfast, who interviewed Mike Brown the following day.
And lastly, we’d like to thank the people who came out and bought a pink bun to support Project Mammogram.
