Pink Dinner Fundraiser
By Dorothy Preece.

A Pink Dinner held in support of incurable breast cancer patients attracted 50 guests and raised almost $1300 on Saturday night (29th). The effort was initiated by Gina Mahmud, who saw the charity ‘Sweet Louise’ online. “They were running fundraising events through the month of October, and I thought we should do something in Whitianga. I registered our event before anyone knew about it, but I was sure we could do it.” Gina undertook to organise the whole event, held in St Andrew’s Community Church lounge. “Some of my friends are cooks at Espy, and they volunteered their time to help me. My friend Susanna Joshua helped too.
“I asked the Warehouse to help with groceries, and they very kindly donated food and The Lost Spring donated spot prizes.”
The food was Kiwi/ Asian fusion, and diners agreed it well exceeded the $20 ticket cost in both quality and quantity. Gina is now planning the next event, in support of the Mammogram machine.
