Swimmers in fine form

By Michelle Rhodes.

Last Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 March over 40 local swimmers took part in the local Mercury Bay Amateur Swimming Club championships. There were fun races with ducks right through to seriously stylish racing dives, tumble turns and international standard front crawl techniques.

Paula Manarangi -Favilli the Club’s Programme Leader, ran a very well organised late afternoon event.

The Club runs coaching and training programmes covering - Learn to Swim, Level Assessed Club Training, Junior/Intermediate/Senior/Adult Squads. Training for amateur competitive swimmers and swimming for fitness and distance, under the direction of Club Convener and Club Captain and their team of dedicated and passionate coaches. When swimmers are assessed as able to `swim competently´ they will be eligible to join the club past the ´Learn to Swim´ programme.

TWO BIG ASKS: The Swimming Pool is clearly underfunded with no heating for the winter months and no swimming pool cover to keep the warmth in.

This is a need in this community particularly for the months of June to September.

Biggest ask is a shout out for more Coaches … full training given.

Prize giving will be held on Wednesday, 5 April at 4pm at the pool. If the weather is good to us, we will have the opportunity to swim and have a BBQ.
