The Peninsula Riderz Whitianga smc - 2023 Poker Run
From Vic Mclean

It was the twenty-first birthday of their annual Poker Run and the riders and drivers raised $2,100 dollars from the registration poker hand. Over 100 riders took part and a few classic cars. The annual Round The Peninsula’ Poker Run is always intended to raise funds for a good community cause that has lots of volunteers and this year the Whitianga Brigade were the lucky recipients.
The first Card was drawn at the local Fire Brigade where the Riderz were greeted with Local Whitianga Fire Brigade Hospitality - sausage in bread with onions and sauce, cup of tea or a coffee. With registration complete, the fire engine led us out through Whitianga town. From Brophy's beach on it’s Ride your own Ride - safety first. Second card drawn at the Coromandel Top Pub; Third card was at the Tapu Tavern; Fourth card was at the Coroglen Tavern; Fifth card was back at the site where the winning hand won $500.
With bikes parked up, Riderz took in the hospitality of The Peninsula Riderz Kitchen. The crew were treated with Kaimoana, Mutton on a Spit with all the trimmings and then moving into the evening it was about relaxing after a good days ride. Who can beat a top feed, a few yarns and a boogie to good ol’ Rock and Roll music. The road the whole way was dry and the ride was safe. The Peninsula scenic views were amazing, (new riders made mention). Riders come from afar - the Waikato, Rotorua, Napier, Taupo, Northland to ‘Ride our Peninsula’ in support of the Club and the great work the local volunteers are doing.
The Poker Run started back in 2003 when Victor along with his wife, Tarn and other Club members were part of the very first Poker Run organized and founded by Dave McGaw who sadly passed in 2014. The Peninsula Riderz Whitianga smc continue the (Colonels) Dave McGraw's legacy - Round the Peninsula Poker Run.
Till next year - Let’s Ride.
