'Through the Gate' to beautiful gardens

By Suzanne Hansen

Spring is around the corner now, and fun spring events are starting to appear in all of our diaries, giving us a heads up for a great summer to come. One iconic event reappearing for 2023 is the

Mercury Bay Lions Club’s Whitianga Garden Ramble, called “Through the Gate”. Rain or shine, fifteen of Whitianga’s loveliest gardens will open their gates to visitors on Saturday 4 and Sunday 5 November, between the hours of 10.00am and 4.00pm on the Saturday and 10.00 am and 2.00pm on the Sunday. You’ll be able to explore fifteen exquisite gardens which have been developed and nurtured with great care, in late spring when they are truly at their best. In these fraught days, what better to enjoy a day in some beautiful gardens where you can enjoy

the fruits of others’ efforts and gain a sense of peace and joy. There will be a Garden Café set

up at one of the gardens where you can refresh yourself with homemade delights and at a separate Plant Emporium along the way you will discover a wide variety of plants for sale.

The event will be easy to navigate, if you are keen by bicycle because all of the gardens are in within the Whitianga town, with only one near the golf course.

Tickets are on sale now from the I-Site Whitianga, Tairua, and Coromandel and the St Johns Op Shop in Whitianga. Tickets are $30 each and all proceeds from the event will go to Project Mammogram to provide a 3D mammogram machine for the Coromandel Peninsula to be based in Whitianga. Make sure you get your friends and family together for a lovely stroll down our lovely array of garden lanes the 4th and 5 November 2023.
