Two exciting shows at The Monkey House Theatre this week

By popular demand, two exciting acts are returning to The Monkey House Theatre in Whitianga this week.

First up is Whitianga’s well-known Dixieland Band, set to play their iconic, traditional New Orleans style and classical jazz tunes on Friday, 13 May. It will be the first time the band take to the stage since their sell-out performance at The Monkey House in November last year.

Playing alongside the Dixieland Band will be Good Luck Jazz, with whom the Dixieland members have been itching to share the stage again.

“Friday is guaranteed to be a great night of fun and celebration with toe-tapping tunes to appeal to all,” says Molly Franke, one of The Monkey House managers.

Following the Whitianga Dixieland Band, Rock N Roll Circus will be entertaining the audience with another fun burlesque show on Saturday, 14 May. Only a few months ago, in February, the circus celebrated their 10th anniversary at The Monkey House with a hugely successful performance. According to a statement by the circus, “Whitianga displayed the greatest enthusiasm of any crowd we have ever experienced and we are hoping to see the same energy as before.”

Going to great lengths to impress the audience once again, Rock N Roll Circus are bringing an all-new themed show, “Viva Las Vegas”, to Whitianga, showcasing several award-winning performers and rising stars. Those who will be on stage include New Zealand’s premier burlesque performer, Kiki Kisses, winner of the Supreme Grand Tease and reigning Duchess of the NZ Burlesque Festival. Hosting the show will be Natasha Stroganoff, whose sharp wit, commanding presence and love for the spotlight will be guiding the audience throughout their night in “Las Vegas”.

In true Rock N Roll Circus style, there will be prizes for best dressed on the night, along with a few other spot prizes.

“We are very excited to have these two very talented acts back in our theatre,” says Molly. “The Dixieland Band and the Rock N Roll Circus burlesque shows have both garnered an impressive local following for good reason, so ensure you are part of an unforgettable night by grabbing tickets fast as each event is expected to sell out.”

Both events kick off at 7:00pm and finish at 10:00pm. The Whitianga Dixieland Band with Good Luck Jazz is a family friendly show while the Rock N Roll Circus’ “Viva Las Vegas” burlesque show is restricted to 18 years of age and over. Tickets for each event can be purchased through eventfinda.co.nz.
