Vienna - logo winner!
Congratulations to Vienna Blofield, the winner of the first Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club - Kubota Billfish Classic 2023 logo design scholarship.
Vienna is a keen young artist, loves music and playing guitar. She attends Mercury Bay Area School as a Year 9 student, age 13.
Vienna shares her experience. "Mum and Dad showed me the scholarship announcement on the Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club Facebook page.I had heard about the $2500 competition around school, but thought it had been cancelled. I was really surprised to see it was still running and the prize was even bigger - $5000! I was like, Yooo i'm gonna give this a go. I was a little apprehensive as the competition had been widened to anyone living on the Coromandel Peninsula, age 18 and under. The design brief was minimal and I knew there would be some tough competition. Some of my friends were initially keen on entering before it was cancelled so I made the decision to keep my entry and design ideas under raps. For me, I knew I would have to go the extra mile to take the win. My entry included my final design, all the concepts and design ideas from along the way, and to top it off, I got Coastal Signs to print it on a tee shirt so the judges could get a real life feel for how it would look on the merchandise. Everyone in my family agreed I was onto a winner and putting it on a tee shirt would surely seal the deal. I submitted it just in time to meet the deadline.
“I was so stoked when I heard the announcement that I had won, like that's crazy and so cool to get such amazing recognition for my art! It didn't feel real until Tom handed me the big cheque at the fishing club. It's sooo cool that I'll get to see my design on tee shirts around town and you'll even be able to buy them, with money generated from sales going towards next year's competition.”
Vienna said the scholarship would go towards furthering her studies in art and design, and would like to thank the Mercury Bay Game Fishing Club and sponsors for making it all possible, with a special thanks to the public for their generous significant cash donations - Stewart and Diana Brown (Longshore Marine), Michelle and Steve Baskett, Philip and Helen Hart (Hart and Associates) and Glen Clothier (GCM Feeds).
