Walk into winter.

By Pauline Stewart.

Walk Into Winter held last Friday night, 12 May could actually have been a very wonderful Mother’s Day event. It was all class in a beautifully lit venue with tasteful decor a swanky catwalk, elegantly dressed hostesses in what is generally a drab Whitianga Town Hall. There was excitement in the air - raffles to die for; all ages of women and quite a few men; three different breaks in the fashion parade for savouries and sweet treats (all home-made by those amazing Lions Club women); fashion, fashion fashion paraded from four of Whitianga’s best women’s clothing stores – Stilo, Mainly Casual, Style Makers, Annah Stretton plus our very own Tango Shoes worn by the models. Who could want more? There were almost 200 tickets sold and with all of the Mercury Bay women, a team of about 30, who organised it and filled all of the volunteer roles of hosting, serving and selling and welcoming, plus all the models – it was a tremendous crowd. Not to be outdone by the women, Damon Christensen of Diode Electrical organised all the sound and lighting; Peninsula Roofing and Scaffolding built the excellent catwalk, Seth Smith recorded the event on video, and some generous male partners of the women ran the pop-up Bar.

Jill Bowker, President of Mercury Bay Lions, opened the evening and thanked all of the very generous sponsors and her excellent team, responsible for a very successful Walk Into Winter. This was all to raise funds for the Mammogram machine for Mercury Bay.

At time of going to print it was not known how much was raised for this important cause.
