Whitianga Photographic Club April challenge - Natural light portraits.

With an engaging portrait that grabs the attention, Kate Beauchamp won first place with "Steampunk Chic". The image was taken inside with natural light coming through the window.

Kate used a creative lens, called a Lensbaby Velvet, to achieve the soft focus around the edge of the image.

April's photo of the month was won by Tina Macrae with "Be true Tulip". This is a striking and colourful still life image which uses water drops to add texture and lighting to create depth to the subject.

From a single drop, to a more abstract image there are endless ways for us to capture water droplets with our cameras. With all the rain we've been having, we may as well put it to good use.
